ABOUT THE CLUB

OUR HISTORY

Solar Flying Club was established and incorporated on September 17, 1953  when three pilots came together and formed a social flying club to promote the camaraderie and fellowship of pilots in Central Iowa.  Howard Heidman, Claude Gaskins and John Beaman established the club and served as the president, vice president and secretary respectively with an initial membership fee of $35.   The club initially operated out of the Des Moines Airport.
